Rising Stars Scotland 2024: Nadira Murray (producer)

Edinburgh-based film producer Nadira Murray, founder of Sylph Productions, is bringing the voices of first-generation immigrants and refugees to the big screen. Drawing on her own experiences as an immigrant from Uzbekistan, Murray’s mission is to “connect the east and west through cinematic experiences.”

Murray’s journey began in 2004 when political circumstances forced her to leave Uzbekistan, eventually settling in the UK. After studying at Drama Studio London and pursuing film production, she established Sylph Productions in Edinburgh. Her current projects include co-producing the feature documentary Flotsam, which explores ecological systems and animal consciousness, as well as collaborating on The Fall Of Sir Douglas Weatherford, a BBC Film- and BFI-backed feature.

Murray is also in pre-production for a feature based on The Girl Who Beat Isis, working alongside notable producers from Shadowplay Pictures. Her previous work includes producing the Oscar-submitted film Winners, marking her ongoing collaboration with UK-Iranian filmmaker Hassan Nazer.
